Zug coins catalog with values
In 1273 the city of Zug was bought by Rudolf
Habsburg, after which he became the owner of the entire canton,
as he already owned part of it.
In 1352, the Forest Cantons (Uri,
Schwyz,
Unterwalden)
and Zurich took
Zug after a siege, as the city was fighting on the Austrian
side. Despite the conquest, Zug was admitted to the Swiss
Confederation as an early member.
In 1355 Zug was again recaptured by Austria, but it returned to
the confederation in 1364.
Zug did not accept the Reformation and fought with other
Catholic cantons against Protestant cantons.
At the beginning of the 18th century, Zug had only about 12,000
inhabitants, but the canton was significant because of its
strategic location.
In the 17th and 18th centuries, Zug was influenced by France
through direct bribery, but the French Revolution was not met
with sympathy and Zug resisted the French army.
In 1798 Zug became part of the Helvetic Republic. The
constitution of 1803 restored its autonomy.
Since 1848 it has been part of the
Swiss
Confederation.
